Borrowing Items

All students are automatically members as soon as you have your college ID card. You can borrow items for free.

What you can borrow
Full-time students  8 items
Part-time students  5 items
  • You can renew most items, but not textbooks as they are in constant demand
  • You can reserve items free of charge and suggest items for purchase.
  • You can do the above remotely from home via our catalogue. If you want to renew items they must not be overdue. Please email lrc@collyers.ac.uk if you have a problem with remote renewals.

We would rather you didn't have to pay any fines for late returns, but we do need items back so others can use them, so a list of charges are below. Just so you know we use the money to buy new things for the LRC. Once a year, around World Book Day, we also donate the fines to a charity.

Fines - for late returns
General Books 15p per week after 3 week loan

Texbooks

DVDs

25 p per day

25 p per day

after 1 day or 1 week loan

after 1 day or 1 week loan

Some DVDs can only be borrowed overnight, but many are on 1 week loan

Late Returns

Full-time Students
Overdue reminders are sent initially by email then fortnightly to tutors.
If items are not returned, a letter is sent home and eventually you will lose your rights to use the computers.  Before that stage, please come and talk to us about any problems you may have returning items. All items must be returned by the end of your last exam!

Part-Time Students
You will receive an initial reminder via your tutor. We will then write to you if the items is not returned.
